Save this one day winter itinerary for a future visit! \n\n🏰 After visiting the capital cities of Tallinn, Oslo and Helsinki on my recent trip, Tallinn was easily my favorite! The most well-known part of the city is the medieval old town, built in the 13th - 16th centuries. The old town is a UNESCO World Heritage site and home to many original buildings, beautiful architecture, historic city walls and more.\n\n⛴️ We took a day trip to Tallinn from Helsinki. Multiple ferries make the trip across the Gulf of Finland daily, making it really easy to travel between the two places. The trip takes 2 hours and the ferries are GIANT and super nice.\n\n🥶 Visiting in the winter was COLD but there were many cozy indoor spots to escape. Plus, the main Christmas market is super charming and runs later than most other markets, until Jan 7th! \n\nWe packed a lot into our one day visit! SAVE this itinerary for later:\n\n🛡Visit the Hellemann Tower and Town Wall Walkway\n\n👟Take a stroll down the historic Katariina käik (oldest street in Tallinn) \n\n🎥Visit the Design and architecture gallery - they had an amazing gingerbread exhibit during the holidays!\n\n🥐Warm up for a cardamom or poppy seed bun from @PullaBakery\n\n 🔭Take in the views of the old town from the Kohtuotsa viewing platform\n\n🕌Admire the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral\n\n⚔️Check out the interior of the historic Town Hall (the oldest town hall in Northern Europe)\n\n🎄Enjoy some shopping, food and gluhwein at the @TallinnChristmasMarket\n\n🎁Shop at @OmaAsi (unique artwork and gifts by local artists)\n\n🍴Eat at @Olde_Hansa, an authentically medieval restaurant (they had plenty of vegetarian options too)\n\n⚕️Explore the Old Town Pharmacy (oldest continually operated pharmacy in Europe)\n\n🍫Enjoy a warm chocolate drink at @chocolaterie_pierre, and check out the other shops in the Master’s Courtyard\n\nSee my stories for more details! \n\nHave you been to Tallinn?\n\n#VisitTallinn #VisitEstonia #NorthernEurope","localFile":{"childImageSharp":{"gatsbyImageData":{"layout":"fixed","backgroundColor":"#a88878","images":{"fallback":{"src":"/static/a0bf4bf60c22cadf12fe7e982fc109b4/a64e1/419289311_384698457436640_4142909512718905036_n.jpg","srcSet":"/static/a0bf4bf60c22cadf12fe7e982fc109b4/a64e1/419289311_384698457436640_4142909512718905036_n.jpg 200w,\n/static/a0bf4bf60c22cadf12fe7e982fc109b4/10200/419289311_384698457436640_4142909512718905036_n.jpg 400w","sizes":"200px"},"sources":[{"srcSet":"/static/a0bf4bf60c22cadf12fe7e982fc109b4/a6d46/419289311_384698457436640_4142909512718905036_n.webp 200w,\n/static/a0bf4bf60c22cadf12fe7e982fc109b4/2db35/419289311_384698457436640_4142909512718905036_n.webp 400w","type":"image/webp","sizes":"200px"}]},"width":200,"height":200}}}}},{"node":{"id":"f4a08955-a077-5c96-aa09-2b293f03198b","permalink":"https://www.instagram.com/p/C2AM5SpMfDV/","caption":"✨10 things to do in Savannah, Georgia ✨\n\nSavannah makes for a fantastic winter getaway! The hotel is re-built each year and made entirely of ice! Each room is carved a little differently around a theme. This year was a viking theme and carvings including a viking ship, Thor’s hammer, and more.\n\nThe temperature is kept at 23˚F/ -5˚C inside of the domes, regardless of the temperature outside. Luckily, they provide a mummy sleeping bag, so it really wasn’t too difficult to stay warm. \n\nWhen you book a stay, you’ll get more than just the stay in the ice dome. The package I booked included transportation to and from Tromso (about 90 minutes away), 3 meals, a guided snowshoe hike, dog sledding and warm gear. We paid a little under $1.4K for the whole experience. \n\nYou can also take a tour of the ice domes paired with dog sledding and other activities without staying overnight. They have many options! \n\nMore things to know:\n- There are 8 rooms \n- There are 5 indoor, heated bathrooms shared among the guests\n- There are a couple of indoor cots you can move to in case you get too cold \n- They don’t turn off the lights in the dome. That honestly made it a little harder to sleep than the temperature. Here are my honest thoughts:\n\nOverall, I loved it! I loved having everything we needed with us at all times and enjoyed the freedom it provided.\n\nHowever, a few of the downsides included the chores and the anxiety we felt as we “stealth camped” on city streets, feeling unclear on if this was something we were allowed to be doing or not. We wanted to go out in nature and feel off the grid, but we needed very reliable wifi/service to work, so we felt we had to stick to populated areas. \n\nWe are still considering buying a van in the future, but the fact that we travel with our cat is the biggest thing holding us back. We just don’t feel like our cat would enjoy living out of a van. But I love the idea of renting many more and eventually having one of our own!\n\nHere are 3 companies we rented from and what I liked and disliked about each one:\n(prices include fees and necessary basic insurance coverages) \n\n@travellersautobarn\n- We rented from Las Vegas \n- $80 a night \n- Loved how affordable it was, but this meant it was more bare-boned. It did not have a toilet and you had to be plugged in to use lights, the heater, etc. the bed was also not that comfortable. But if you’re on a budget, I definitely recommend renting from them!\n\ncabanavans \n- We rented from Los Angeles \n- $200 a night \n- This van was luxurious! The bed was extremely comfortable, it came with a personal hotspot, it had a nice bathroom and shower, etc. I didn’t love that the kitchen could only be used when you pulled it out of the back, but they do have another layout with kitchens inside at other locations. Overall, worth the money and I would definitely rent from them again. \n\n@aclipsecampervans \n- We rented from Cincinnati \n- $322 a night \n- This van had a nice cooking set up, but the bed was uncomfortable and it didn’t have a toilet. IMO, it was too expensive for what we got.\n\nSAVE this if you’re considering van rental soon! \n\nHave you tried out van life before?\n\n#VanLife #USARoadTrip #VanRental","localFile":{"childImageSharp":{"gatsbyImageData":{"layout":"fixed","backgroundColor":"#685848","images":{"fallback":{"src":"/static/336e2f9cd01aba76e38a5eec0264e787/a64e1/412715181_1482645972297229_4695355137777145752_n.jpg","srcSet":"/static/336e2f9cd01aba76e38a5eec0264e787/a64e1/412715181_1482645972297229_4695355137777145752_n.jpg 200w,\n/static/336e2f9cd01aba76e38a5eec0264e787/10200/412715181_1482645972297229_4695355137777145752_n.jpg 400w","sizes":"200px"},"sources":[{"srcSet":"/static/336e2f9cd01aba76e38a5eec0264e787/a6d46/412715181_1482645972297229_4695355137777145752_n.webp 200w,\n/static/336e2f9cd01aba76e38a5eec0264e787/2db35/412715181_1482645972297229_4695355137777145752_n.webp 400w","type":"image/webp","sizes":"200px"}]},"width":200,"height":200}}}}},{"node":{"id":"aa406de6-0ac1-5dbd-96bb-33aaa185a672","permalink":"https://www.instagram.com/reel/C1E6BHdMqeD/","caption":"I hiked 450 miles across 18 states in 2023! We were completely blown away 🤯\n\nIf you’re not familiar, Madeira is a small Portuguese Island located 600 miles off of the mainland. Originally uninhabited, it was claimed by Portuguese sailors in 1419. Today, it is known for its prehistoric laurel forest, incredible hiking trails, wine, fruits and more.\n\nPlease make sure to leave no trace while you’re exploring! We saw an alarming amount of toilet paper along the trails. Please pack that out and use the bathrooms that are provided! \n\nHiking:\n\n- PR1 Pico Arieiro to Pico Ruivo - 9.9 miles, hard\n- Vereda do Larano - Boca do Risco - 5.7 miles, moderate \n- PR8 - Vereda da Ponta de São Lourenço, 4.6 miles, moderate \n- PR11 Vereda dos Balcões - 1.8 miles, easy \n\n(these are just the trails that I did, which were all epic! But there are many more to choose from)\n\nWhere To Stay:\n\nI had an amazing experience at @TheCliffBay. They have rooms with incredible views, several restaurants on sight, a spa and multiple pools nestled among towering cliffs and greenery.\n\nActivities:\n\n- Book a canyoneering excursion with @HarmonyinNatureMadeira (Madeira is an incredible place for canyoneering!) \n- Ride the Funchal cable car up to Monte \n- Visit the Monte Palace Tropical Garden\n- Get pushed in a wicker basket down a steep hill!\n- Visit the Funchal Farmers Market\n- Swim at the Porto Moniz Natural Swimming Pools\n\nFood:\n\nI loved @terra.foodconcept and @madmarket_madlab!\n\nTransportation:\n\nIf you’ll be doing a lot of hiking, I definitely recommend renting your own car to explore. Just keep in mind that the island is full of STEEP hills and manual cars are more common. Make sure you’re experienced driving manual cars if you rent one (automatic cars are available, just more expensive). You can also take taxis all over the island. \n\nSave this guide if you’re considering a trip to Madeira!\n\nHave you visited Madeira yet?
